IRCC updated its estimated processing times with data as of June 17, 2026, and the highlight was two movements in opposite directions: while some categories improved considerably, citizenship got dramatically slower.
Citizenship went against the grain
The citizenship certificate was the biggest outlier: it jumped from about 3 months to 15 months, with the queue growing by roughly 11,600 applications, reaching close to 82,000 people waiting. The citizenship grant itself held steady at around 13 months.

What improved
On the other hand, several economic categories moved forward:
- Inland work permits: dropped to 186 days, a sustained decline;
- Atlantic Immigration Program: shrank by 12 months at once;
- Super visas: hit their lowest level of the year in nearly every country;
- New PR cards: issued in about 40 days.
Meanwhile, spousal sponsorship queues had been climbing slightly, so anyone in that category should keep a close eye on it.
How to read these numbers
One detail that trips a lot of people up: these timelines represent the window in which 80% of applications receive a decision, based on the actual history of applications already processed. In other words, it's an estimate, not a guarantee. Your case could come out sooner or later.
